Crystal Garcia Army. Barrel Racer

Crystal Garcia - US Army and Barrel Racer
WAR Barrel Racing Team Leader

My name is Crystal Garcia. I am originally from Wall, SD, moved to California with my family when I was 5 years old. I've always had a love for horses ever since I can remember. Back in South Dakota my dad was a team roper, so as a baby/toddler spent a lot of time around the arena and rodeo.

After we moved to California there really wasn't very many local rodeos or play days for us, however my love for horses never went away. In high school I was a part of my JROTC Army and Equestrian Color Guard. I guess you could say me being a part JROTC in high school, I had found my place in the world. Right after high school I joined the Army, in 2000 as a Military Police. I did 5 years of service while 2 of them were in Germany when the 9/11 happened. I had been a little disappointed that I didn't get to actually see the battlefield, but now I realize God had his reasons for me not going. I did a total of 5 years in the Army. 10 years later, I have a place in Las Vegas where I am able to train my horse to be the best barrel horse he can be and gentle enough for my daughter to compete in the Little Britches Rodeo.  In the meantime my daughter and I compete in the Las Vegas Gymkhana Association doing Barrel Racing and Pole Bending. Not only do I barrel race, but I want to get into team roping and mounted shooting.
