Derek Blue - U.S. Army, wild land fire fighter
WAR Vice President
WAR Membership Coordinator
I joined the United States Army in 2004 as a cannon crewmember. I was stationed at Fort Hood, TX from 2005 until 2007, when I left active duty to finish my college degree. Joined the Army Reserves
to be a training NCO for a drill sergeant unit in Lincoln, NE. I’m currently serving as Training NCO for a drill sergeant unit in San Antonio, TX. Served on a Military Transition Team in Najaf, Iraq during my deployment in 2005-2006, training Iraqi Army forces in basic first-aid and urban combat tactics.
I was fortunate enough in 2015 to spend time on the road managing the company sponsorship with the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association Wrangler Champions Challenge presented by Justin Boots tour. This involved traveling to each Champions Challenge rodeo performance as a
representative of our company in an effort to reach out to the rodeo community, handle any
marketing challenges that arise with each event, and be the company point of contact for
the professional cowboys and cowgirl on our drafted team. In addition to the PRCA I have worked with ranch rodeos in South Texas, the Professional Bull Riders, Texas & Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association, and the National Cutting Horse Association.
Currently I am employed full-time with Texas Parks and Wildlife Department as a state park administrator and as a wildland firefighter. Recently I was voted the Vice-President of Warriors And Rodeo. Brenham, Texas is home for my wife and I, our 6 year old son, and our baby which is due this fall.
WAR is family. We all have a common interest in rodeo and the western way of life. I can always get in touch with someone if I'm depressed or having a tough time. Every member is there for each other no matter what the problem or issue is.
